CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – The Indians have an opening in their starting rotation.

That opening is available for Wednesday's series finale against Minnesota.

Which brings to question? Do the Indians bring back either Mike Clevinger or Zac Plesac to make a start Wednesday night, or go with someone from the alternate site?

"I'm comfortable with the decision making of the Cleveland Indians," Said Sandy Alomar, who's filling in for Terry Francona. "I hope guys get over the Clevinger and Plesac situation, but we love to have one of those guys pitch if we could ... that's a decision the Indians have to make."

The Indians will make an announcement for Wednesday's starter on Tuesday.

Big Series?

Coming into Monday's game, Cleveland sits 1.5 games behind A.L. Central Division-leading Minnesota. The Indians host the Twins in a three-game series as this is Minnesota's only trip to town this season.

"Every series we play in the pandemic is big," Alomar said. "This series is bigger because it's in the same division, and they're a good team. This is a team we're chasing, and the players don't need any extra motivation because they already know ... it's been a battle for the past three years."

After Wednesday's series finale, Cleveland won't face Minnesota until Friday, Sept.
11, for the finale three-game series of the year.

Roster Move

Cleveland made a roster move before Monday's game against Minnesota. Catcher Sandy Leon was activated from the Family Medical Emergency List. Left-hander Logan Allen was optioned to the Indians' alternate training site in Lake County.

According to Alomar's press conference with the media before Monday's game, Leon worked out on Sunday. He did another workout at Progressive Field on Monday afternoon.
Leon caught a bullpen session and worked on light running to get his feet back under him.

In 15 games, Leon has a batting average of .119 for the Indians with a .503 OPS and homered once.

DeShields Jr. Update

Indians outfielder Delino DeShields Jr. is improving from a sore left hip that took him out of Saturday's game against Detroit.

DeShields Jr., 28, is feeling better after not playing Sunday afternoon.

"He's feeling much better," Alomar said. "He ran the bases, did some work in the outfield to see if it felt much better. We will more by tomorrow, and it's available to come off the bench tonight."
