CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) - The Cleveland Indians and infielder Cesar Hernández have agreed to a one-year deal worth $5 million, with a club option for the 2022 season.
The team made the signing official Friday.
The 30-year-old switch hitter signed with the Indians last offseason after spending his first seven seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies. Hernández hit .283 with three home runs, 35 runs scored and 20 RBIs in 58 games. He led the American League in doubles (20), and was tops among A.L. second basemen in hits (66) and runs scored (35).
Defensively, Hernández posted a .981 fielding percentage with only four errors in 210 total chances, earning Hernández a Gold Glove Award for the second baseman position - the first Tribe player to do so since Roberto Alomar in 2001.
Hernández is a career .277 hitter with 49 home runs, 273 RBIs and 80 stolen bases.
