PEORIA, Arizona (92.3 The Fan) - The Cleveland Indians dropped their second consecutive game on Thursday with a 5-4 defeat to the San Diego Padres.
The back-and-forth affair saw five different lead changes over the 9-inning contest, with San Diego winning on a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the ninth.
Shane Bieber (3.0 IP, H, ER, 5 K's) started for the Tribe, only allowing a solo home run to Padres right fielder Will Myers.
"Everything felt really good, incorporated all my pitches"
The Tribe jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Mike Freeman (1-for-3, RBI) doubled home Bobby Bradley (2-for-3, 2 2Bs, RBI, run scored), who knocked the first of his two doubles to start the frame. Bradley regained the lead for the Tribe in the 3rd, when he doubled home Bradley Zimmer (1-for-4, run).
Bieber was relieved in the fourth inning by Heath Hembree (0.2 IP, 2H, 2 R (ER), BB, SO, HR), who allowed a 2-run home run to Eric Hosmer to give the Padres a 3-2 lead. Following Hembree, five Tribe pitchers (Nick Mikolajchak (0.1 IP), Bryan Shaw (1.0 IP, BB, SO), Phil Maton (1.0 IP, H, BB, SO), Blake Parker (1.0 IP, 2 H) and Scott Moss (1.0 IP, BB, SO)) kept San Diego off the board until Robert Broom (0.1 IP, H, 2 R (1 ER), 2 BB's) allowed two runs in the bottom of the ninth.
