Report: Cubs planning to hire Carter Hawkins as general manager

Hawkins, 37, has worked for 14 years in Cleveland's organization.

(670 The Score) The Cubs are planning to hire Carter Hawkins as their general manager, The Athletic reported on Wednesday.

Hawkins, 37, has spent the last 14 years working in the Cleveland organization. He is currently assistant general manager, this after rising from a scouting internship role.

Hawkins would emerge into a role previously occupied by Jed Hoyer, now the Cubs' president of baseball operations. Hoyer was promoted last November after Theo Epstein stepped down from his position following nine years with the Cubs.

Hoyer held off on hiring a general manager last year due to limitations presented with the pandemic.

It's not yet clear when the Cubs would make the hiring of Hawkins official.
