The College Football Playoff rankings are shaping up to have an exciting end to the regular season.

The latest ranking was unveiled Tuesday night, and while the top four remain unchanged — Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan and TCU — LSU has moved into the fifth spot while USC moves up to No. 6 as the two powerhouse programs are knocking on the door.

The Tigers rolled past UAB, 41-10, on Saturday and will face an unranked Texas A&M squad this weekend but are already penciled in to face top-ranked Georgia in the SEC Championship game on Dec. 3. A win would seriously shake things up, essentially guaranteeing LSU a spot in the playoff to become the first two-loss team to earn a bid in the event’s history.

USC fans are likely to be upset that its one-loss team is still behind the Tigers after a 48-45 win over UCLA, but it seems as if LSU’s strength of schedule was weighed more heavily by the committee.

Of course, if USC could beat No. 15 Notre Dame this week it would certainly bolster the Trojans’ case to leapfrog the Tigers, but LSU’s ultimate fate will most likely be decided against Georgia the following week.

Ohio State and Michigan will play each other this weekend in its rivalry game and the stakes could not be higher as the result could be devastating to the loser.

TCU, meanwhile, continues to hang onto the No. 4 spot in dramatic fashion. The Horned Frogs will host Iowa State on Saturday and likely No. 12 Kansas or No. 23 Texas in the Big 12 Championship Game.
