The Lions started this season the way they finished last: in a jubilant locker room inside a stunned stadium.
They weren't supposed to beat Aaron Rodgers and the Packers; they were supposed to send Green Bay into the playoffs. And they certainly weren't supposed to beat Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs; they were supposed to bend the knee after Kansas City raised its banner.
But these Lions are done playing the prop.
After they spoiled the Chiefs Super Bowl celebration Thursday night at Arrowhead, rallying in the fourth quarter just like they did at Lambeau, Dan Campbell reminded the Lions that this was all part of the plan. That this was, indeed, what they were supposed to do.
"Let me ask you this: did we expect to win that fu*king game?" Campbell said in Detroit's locker room. "We did. And that’s exactly what we did. Because we’re built that fu*king way! And everything we talked about was how it went down.
"I told you guys, we’re built for this sh*t! We can overcome anything, as long as you guys just fu*king hang with it. We got a ton to clean up when we get back. But until then, fu*king enjoy this. I’m proud of you guys."
Enjoy it they will.
