Ben Johnson is showing off in Chicago. Almost like he knows everyone is watching.
The Lions featured a new wrinkle in the playbook Sunday against the Bears when Jared Goff and Jahmyr Gibbs pulled off an apparently choreographed stumble and fake fumble before Goff threw his third touchdown of the game to put the Lions up 34-14 in the third.
The stunt seemed to work. When Goff acted like he was falling and Gibbs dove to the ground to recover the imagined fumble, the Bears linebackers froze, which allowed Sam LaPorta to run free down the field. He hauled in a perfect 21-yard pass in the end zone for the touchdown.
Johnson, in his third season as the Lions' offensive coordinator, is known to be a target of the Bears in their upcoming head coaching search. If either side viewed Sunday as any sort of audition, safe to say Johnson helped his case.
