The Saints have a lot of moving parts this offseason, but one thing has been very clear throughout OTAs and the start of the three-day minicamp: Jarvis Landry has been as advertised.
WWL color analyst Deuce McAllister joined SportsTalk to share his thoughts on the former LSU star who joined the Saints as a free agent this season, adding a much-needed veteran presence atop the WR depth chart as Michael Thomas continues to work back.
“Jarvis Landry has been the star. He’s been the star as far as OTAs as well as minicamp. He’s been a star," McAllister said. "When you put pads on I don’t think that changes … for him. For some players that will change.”

There are no padded practices in minicamp, which makes onlookers have to use their imagination a bit for how things will look when it moves into full-hitting territory. That can be an advantage to the more physical players, who are at their best when they can lean on somebody. It can work against others who might shine without having to get hit as they work downfield.
For Landry, it should be the former. His short-area quickness will translate, and he simply offers another option for Saints quarterback Jameis Winston who simply understands how to get open and make life easier on his passer.
“When you put pads on a guy like Jarvis Landry, his quickness is still going to be quickness. His explosion in short areas is still gonna be there. So he will help to take so much pressure off of Jameis, but also Mike Thomas.”
The Saints are back on the field Thursday for the final day of minicamp, then will break before the full training camp in July, the dates for which have not yet been announced.
