There was some legitimacy to the New York Jets’ pursuit of Tyreek Hill.
The Miami Dolphins landed the star wide receiver in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday. The Chiefs got a ton of draft picks in return, while the Dolphins were able to make Hill the highest-paid wide receiver by giving him the contract extension he was seeking.
But the other team said to have legitimate interest in Hill was the Jets. Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, indicated on 560 Sports in Miami that New York truly was in the mix.
“The Chiefs were unbelievable," Rosenhaus said on "The joe Rose Shw with Zach Krantz." "They were first-class with Tyreek all the way, and what they did was they agreed to trade terms with both the Jets and the Dolphins, and then it was up to us to decide predicated on a contract extension. The Chiefs were unbelievable, they gave me permission to work on a trade and they were just the best. It never got acrimonious … it was a very united front. We were working together, and it was great dealing with the Dolphins and the Jets. Both the organizations were unbelievable to work with
“What the Jets were offering, the Chiefs were comfortable with. The Chiefs weren’t trying to force Tyreek to one team or the other. They always gave us the ability to talk to multiple teams.”
There’s two logical conclusions to draw here since the Chiefs were comfortable trading Hill to either team. Either Hill thought he had a better chance to win in Miami (which he does), or the Dolphins gave him a superior contract offer to the Jets.
Either is plausible. But, ultimately, the Dolphins are a better fit for Hill since they’re more equipped to win now and don’t have nearly as many roster holes to fill compared to New York.
