Special Counsel Ed Colbert of Hunton, Andrews, and Kurth explains the lawsuit his clients, the Cleveland Guardians roller derby team, filed against the Cleveland Indians to block their name change and why the lawsuit was filed. He breaks down the grievances his clients have and what resolution they want out of the lawsuit.
Cleveland's baseball team announced in July that they planned on changing their name to the Guardians, while the roller derby team has been using the name Guardians since 2013 and registered the name with the Ohio Secretary of State in 2017.
In the lawsuit, the roller derby team claims MLB knew about their team name months before the announcement for the baseball team was made and Ed Colbert goes into the details of the lawsuit with Baskin and Phelps.
