Former Patriot QB Matt Cassel was just as confused as everyone else was Saturday afternoon after the announcement of Tom Brady's retirement was broken by ESPN's Adam Schefter and Jeff Darlington. After the report broke, it immediately led to a number of conflicting reports from Brady's dad, his agent, and others in the media refuting ESPN's report.

While the mess surrounding Brady's retirement debacle may be a case of bad journalism and the constant push from media outlets to be 'first' or just a case of Brady wanting to control the narrative and make the announcement himself.
Cassel decided to reach out to his former teammate to confirm if he is in fact retiring. According to his tweet, which is currently at over 170,000 likes at the time of this article, he has yet to receive an answer.
"Can confirm that I texted Tom Brady and he didn’t text me back," Cassel said on Twitter Saturday afternoon.
Cassel, who played in New England from 2005-2008, served as Brady’s backup during that span. He didn't see his first real action until 2008 after Brady suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 1, ironically against the team that would sign Cassel, the Kansas City Chiefs.
Cassel ended up starting 15 games, throwing for 3,693 yards and 21 touchdowns that year, leading the Pats to an 11-5 record and narrowly missing out on the playoffs. His stellar season in lieu of what happened to Brady was good enough to garner interest across the league and eventually landed Cassel a huge deal with the Chiefs the following season.
As of Sunday morning, it’s still unknown exactly what Brady’s next move will be. Cassel seems to be in the same boat as the rest of us, patiently waiting to hear what his former teammate will do.
