The Steelers are 6-3, That’s great, but after another close victory against a not-so-great Green Bay Packers team, there are still many questions.
I was really hoping Kenny Pickett would have a breakout game, throwing for two-three touchdowns with the Steelers scoring close to 30 points.
Instead, we got another ho-hum performance from Pickett, who went 14-23 for 126 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions.
Pickett has 13 career wins, 13 interceptions and 13 passing touchdowns so far. Not exactly anything to write home about.
The Steelers are getting it done thanks to Pickett coming alive in the fourth quarter of games and on Sunday, they got some help from the refs.
Former offensive lineman Trai Essex, a frequent guest on 93.7 The Fan, ripped into Pickett after a clear lateral that was ruled a forward pass on the field and after review.
The play should’ve given the Packers either a touchdown or great field position late in the first half.
Instead, the Steelers punted and were able to prevent the Packers from getting into the endzone.
The Steelers have been just enough to eek out a few games thanks to the defense and other teams, like Baltimore basically handing the Steelers a win.
Four of the Steelers wins have come against teams without a losing record, the other two were against Cleveland and Baltimore.
The Steelers could easily be 3-6, but they’ve done just enough to be solidly in the playoff race.
But, if Pickett doesn’t start to improve, the Steelers may make the playoffs just to get blown out again, when they have to play the real elite teams of the AFC.
