VIEW FROM PITTSBURGH: 'It just feels stale', Should Tomlin's time in Pittsburgh end?

Another disappointing Sunday for the Steelers.
Unable to score more than 14 points, Pittsburgh lost to Baltimore 16-14.

Now at 5-8, it’s looking like Head Coach Mike Tomlin could suffer his first losing season during his career.

And while he has never had a losing season, he’s going to have one double-digit win season in the past five and only three playoffs wins in the past season.

93.7 The Fan Morning Show host Colin Dunlap says the truth hurts and while he thinks Tomlin is a “very good” coach, “he’s living off past glory now.”

As Dunlap points out, the Steelers coach isn’t even put on the hot seat by owner Art Rooney II.

He also sees Tomlin’s time in Pittsburgh similar to Andy Reid when he was at the end in Philadelphia.

From a pure football standpoint, Tomlin continues to allow coaches to be employed. Special Teams have been bad this season and yet Danny Smith continues to have a job.

Presley Harvin III has a 17-yard punt yesterday and a field goal was blocked. That was only in one game.

During season downturns, Tomlin has said he is open to changes, yet he hasn’t made any big ones to help improve the team.

“Change the scenery, change the coach . . . it just feels stale,” said Dunlap.

But the Rooney family won’t consider change for even a second, let alone even consider putting a little pressure on Tomlin or making him uncomfortable.

“I challenge you to tell me someone, not named Marvin Lewis that has coached 12 years, won three playoffs games and still held their job, let alone we can’t even put them on the hot seat,” said Dunlap.

With that, Mr. Rooney, at the end of the season, will point to a rookie quarterback taking, over going to the playoffs the past two seasons and it only being the first time Tomlin was below .500 in his career.

While all of those are true, the Steelers have been average at best for the past decade and when they lose in the playoffs, they get embarrassed by Jacksonville, Cleveland and Kansas City.

Tomlin may be a Hall of Fame coach, but Dunlap believes it’s time for a change for both the organization and the coach.
