NFL legend and Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders had surgery on his injured left foot that eventually ended up in the Hall of Famer losing two of his toes as a result of blood clots.

In an episode of 'Coach Prime' a Barstool Sports series, cameras captured Sanders going through the entire procedure which had the football coach cooped up in a Mississippi hospital for three weeks.

During his time in the hospital, Sanders lost both his big and second toe on his foot, as well as losing 35 pounds. His stay stems from being diagnosed with three femoral arterial blood clots, which doctors categorized as life-threatening, and left Sanders in a wheelchair or scooter for the bulk of the college football season.

Things got a lot worse for Sanders as blood clots would spread through his entire leg and would lead to a diagnosis of compartment syndrome. That's when a call to his mother revealed that there is a history of family members who have been diagnosed or died from blood clots.

"They were first talking about the amputation of toes, then the amputation of my leg from knee down, and then they were trying to ensure that I had life," Sanders said.

The former standout cornerback said he ultimately required eight surgeries just to try to get the foot right.

Sanders said he will reveal more details once the newest episode premieres Tuesday night at 8 p.m. EST.
