Jameis Winston was cleared to participate in Organized Team Activities by the New Orleans Saints, but protecting his surgically repaired ACL will be a priority leading up to Week 1 of the NFL season.
As WWL's Jeff Nowak reported, Winston was wearing a brace and had a limp at Saints OTAs last week.
There are still three-plus months until the season starts, but Winston’s health is paramount to the Saints’ success in 2022.
The team does have veteran Andy Dalton as a backup with Ian Book behind him. New head coach Dennis Allen says he does not plan to use Taysom Hill as a quarterback, but mostly tight end instead.
In seven games last year, Winston threw for 1,170 yards and 14 touchdowns to three interceptions — the latter perhaps most impressive as turnovers were the one thing holding him back in Tampa Bay.
If Winston can be healthy and play at that level, with rookie wide receiver Chris Olave and a healthy Michael Thomas at his disposal, it is not unreasonable to think the Saints could have one of the most explosive offenses in the league.
