Daniel Jones was rewarded with a franchise quarterback-level contract this offseason, though a faction of NFL observers remain skeptical he’ll live up to that billing long-term.

Joe Schoen, obviously, is not among them.

Jones took an enormous step forward last season, becoming one of the league’s more reliable quarterbacks in his fourth NFL season. New York previously had declined his fifth-year option, something that ultimately worked out in Jones’ favor.

The 2024 season is a big one for Jones. Arguably the most impressive thing he did last season was drag along a Giants offense that featured a largely woeful collection of skill players. After an active offseason, that shouldn’t be the case much longer. Now, Jones is shouldered with a lot of pressure to get New York’s offense to another level.

Schoen said Monday on CBS Sports Radio’s The Zach Gelb Show that he’s confident Jones can take the next step.

“I think you’ll see this season,” Schoen responded when asked what he’d say to those still skeptical of Jones. “I’ve got a lot of confidence in Daniel and our coaching staff and the weapons that we’ve added. And again, we’ve still got to come together as a group, and we’re working on it now because there are new pieces.

“But I think the biggest thing for Daniel is just the continuity of the staff, the understanding if the offense, the ability to execute at a high level, and then you upgrade some of the talent around him. I think you’re going to see the best version of Daniel Jones this year.”

Last season, Jones had a career best 67.2% competition percentage, throwing for 3,205 yards with 15 touchdowns and five interceptions.
