UPDATE: The Knicks made the Randle news official, and revealed that he will be re-evaluated in five months.
The Knicks will reportedly not be getting back All-Star Julius Randle this season.
According to ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Randle tried to push through months of rehab after separating his shoulder in January, but ultimately, things did not progress as the Knicks had hoped, and season-ending shoulder surgery is now the route he will take.
Randle “relentlessly” pushed through his rehab process, per Wojnarowski, but doctors told him it would be dangerous to play again this season due to instability in the shoulder.
Doctors also warned Randle that he could do permanent damage to his shoulder if he returned this season without surgery.
Randle was having another standout season for the Knicks before the injury, averaging 24 points per game while shooting 47.2 percent from the field.
