The Kansas Jayhawks will be without their head coach for the start of the season.

Kansas has issued a self-imposed four-game suspension for Bill Self and assistant coach Kurtis Townsend to begin the season, as well as self-imposed recruiting restrictions, according to Jeff Goodman of Stadium.

The decision stems from a 2017 NCAA investigation in Kansas that is expected to conclude after the season, per Goodman.

Self and Townsend had previously had not been recruiting on the road this past spring and summer as part of a self-imposed action.

Kansas opens its season on Nov. 3 with an exhibition against Pittsburg State. The suspension will include Self and Townsend missing a Nov. 15 matchup against Duke at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
