DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Mavericks are kicking off free agency by re-signing two of their own.
The Mavs have agreed to contract extensions with guard Tim Hardaway Jr. and center Boban Marjanovic, according to multiple reports.
Hardaway will earn $74 million over four years, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports. The terms of Marjanovic's deal have yet to be reported.
The deal can be seen as a win for the Mavs, as Hardaway will actually earn less in the first three years of his new contract than he did in the final three seasons of his previous contract, Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News reports. However, this new contract will represent a slight raise for Hardaway, as he just completed a four-year, $70.9 million deal.
Hardaway, 29, was one of the organization's top priorities this summer, especially so after they missed out on their top target, Kyle Lowry, who is likely headed to the Miami Heat in a sign-and-trade agreement with the Toronto Raptors.
It's not known if Hardaway will return as a starter or as the team's sixth man under new head coach Jason Kidd. He had previously expressed a desire to be a starter during his end-of-season press conference with the media, saying he's "more comfortable" in that role.
According to Statmuse, Hardaway averaged 15.1 ppg on 44.4% shooting from the field and 38.5% shooting from deep in 39 games off the bench last season.
In 31 starts, he averaged 18.6 ppg on 45-percent shooting from the field and 39.8% shooting from three-point range. He averaged 17 ppg on 41.6-percent shooting from the field and 40.4-percent shooting from behind the arc in his seven playoff starts.
Hardaway averaged 16.6 points for the season while shooting 44.7-percent from the field and 39.1-percent from three-point range.
As for Marjanovic, that signing is seen as Luka-friendly. The 7-foot-4 big man averaged 4.7 points and 3.9 rebounds in just over eight minutes per game.
