Pittsburgh (93.7 The Fan) - If, when and where are now words associated with Steelers training camp this summer. The scheduled start of camp is two months away, and no one knows what is going to happen, including coach Mike Tomlin.
"Right now, I think we're looking at all options," Tomlin said. "We're looking at St. Vincent. We're looking at Pittsburgh, and we're looking at some other undisclosed sites. Obviously, the safety and the protocol is first and foremost, and we have to put these guys in a situation that best checks those boxes."
Tomlin spoke with John Calipari on the Kentucky basketball coach's weekly Facebook live series.
The Steelers have held training camp at St. Vincent College in Latrobe since 1966.
The pandemic has prevented NFL clubs from holding organized team activities and mini camps at team facilities. In regard to that, Tomlin issued a warning.
"At some point we're going to get back to ball," Tomlin said. "If you've got experience, you know what is required to be ready. If you're lacking experience and we get into that circumstance where we haven't had the opportunity to train them or prepare them and do some of the things we do in person there can be consequences for that."
While the coaching staff oversees virtual workouts, Tomlin is hesitant to offer opinions on new players.
