Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow isn't the biggest fan of Skyline Chili, and he's made that known more than once.
He told "Pardon My Take" the same thing in December of 2019, and though we haven't really heard a recent update, he said he might be willing to give it another try to make sure his tastes haven't changed (via CBS Sports).
But Joe Burrow is also the heart and soul of Cincinnati sports right now, and so if they have to give him a free pass for his opinions on Skyline Chili, so be it. I'm sure the fans would rather see the Bengals record a winning season for the first time since 2015, or maybe even win a playoff game for the first time in over three decades, than jeopardize their relationship with the quarterback over a disagreement over food.
Evidently, they're not as worried about their relationship with New York Mets announcer Gary Cohen, who tore into the Cincinnati specialty during the broadcast, calling it "disgusting" and telling Ron Darling that he can try it, but that he'll never willingly have it again after that first sample.
Before I go any further, I have to say that I've never had Skyline Chili and I actually don't think it looks all that bad. Then again, I was the only one of my friend group in college who absolutely loved dining hall meals and about as sophisticated a palate as a housefly. Make of that what you will.
Several people that have tried it — and many are not coincidentally based in the Cincinnati area — took to Twitter to defend Skyline and show their disappointment in Cohen.
Then again, Cohen wasn't waging a completely one-sided war.
