On Monday night Atlanta Braves reliever Jacob Webb accidentally hit Mets outfielder Kevin Pillar in the face with a pitch. Despite being visibly shaken, he was called upon on Thursday night to start the 10th inning.
It's a move that many immediately questioned Brian Snitker about, and for good reason.
Webb himself spoke about how he's handling the incident to various reporters on Tuesday.
Despite Webb admitting he's going to have a tough time moving forward and despite even Pillar, with stitches running down his nose, commenting on how he's more concerned about Webb's state of mind, Snitker thought it was a good idea to use him in a tie game.
Right now Webb cannot be trusted in key moments, and understandably so. What happened on Monday night is possibly a career-changing moment for two players, Pillar and Webb. And until the Braves can truly regain confidence in Webb, you can't use him in key situations.
Whether that means he needs to be sent to Gwinnett to work on himself, or just have his role adjusted to being a guy that's used with a big lead or a big deficit, something has to be done.
It's obvious that Snitker tried to give his guy a chance to prove he wasn't affected, but he clearly is. The Braves cannot count on Webb right now until the proves otherwise and it's up to Snitker to realize that.
