EAST LANSING (WWJ) – Michigan State University officials have issued an apology after an image of Adolf Hitler appeared on the video board at Spartan Stadium ahead of Saturday’s game against rival Michigan.

Images circulating online showed the Nazi leader on the video board before the game, accompanied by a trivia question about Hitler’s birthplace.

MSU officials said the content had come from a third party source and the school will no longer use that source. The name of that source was not immediately clear.

The school also plans to update its screening procedures for content.

“MSU is aware that inappropriate content by a third-party source was displayed on the video board prior to the start of tonight’s football game,” a statement released by MSU spokesperson Matt Larson said. “We are deeply sorry for the content that was displayed, as this is not representative of our institutional values. MSU will not be using the third-party source going forward and will implement stronger screening and approval procedures for all videoboard content in the future.”

The No. 2 Wolverines went on to beat MSU 49-0.
