PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Ben Roethlisberger said this week that this current team may have lost the Steelers way, that maybe the tradition of the Pittsburgh Steelers is done. Najee Harris was asked about Ben’s statement on Wednesday.
Before you see his reaction know it’s a tough question for him to answer. He didn’t hear Roethlisberger’s words and is trying to quickly give an opinion about a retired, star player saying something negative about this year’s team.
“Ben can have his opinion about something,” Harris said Wednesday. “I’m not saying he’s right or wrong. I don’t know how to answer that.”
“Ben is a Hall of Famer. He’s been here, won a Super Bowl. He knows what the standard is. Ben is somebody who is credible. I got here his last year, so I can’t really say I know what the Steeler Way is. He’s been here with Troy (Polamalu), Jerome (Bettis). If someone outside sees that and he’s been in this building you could guess and say, like, maybe he’s right.”
Harris said they had another team meeting with a position group he didn’t name after the loss to New England. He said they put some bad stuff on film and as for what was said in those meetings, he prefers to keep that in house.
“I think we all know as a team that we really got to lock in and execute game plans and know that every game matters,” Harris said. “Every game the notch is turned up a little bit more and we know that. We need to perform like it’s that.”
Harris said he’s seen it be better in practice so far this week.
It’s a group that has experienced the taste of defeat and the taste of not making the playoffs last year. The third-year tailback said they need to carry that over this year into the last quarter of the season.
“These next four games are surely the playoffs for us,” Harris said. “I think if we win out, we could dictate if we make the playoffs or not.”
