For the second year in row, the Lions have helped rewrite the NFL rulebook.

The league approved a new rule on challenge calls at its annual owners meetings on Monday that was originally proposed by Dan Campbell and the Lions. Starting in the 2024 season, teams will get a third challenge if either one of their first two challenges was successful.

Formerly, teams were only awarded a third challenge if both of their previous challenges were successful.

Campbell went 0-for-4 on challenge calls last season, and is 3-for-12 in his tenure with the Lions.

Campbell and the Lions also proposed a rule at last year's owners meetings that went into effect for the 2023 season that allowed teams to dress a third quarterback for games without having that player count against the 48-man gameday roster.

The Lions proposed the emergency quarterback rule after watching the 49ers lose both their quarterbacks to injury in the 2022 NFC championship game in a blowout loss to the Eagles.
