The Jets season is all but over, as the team failed to even show up in a must-win game against the Cardinals on Sunday afternoon, losing in a lopsided 31-6 defeat to continue what has been an embarrassing season.
Gang Green is now 3-7 in a year where they came in with higher expectations than the organization has had in over a decade, and Boomer says the feeling around the team can be traced back to the star quarterback whose arrival led to those expectations, but whose play on the field has been nothing like anyone expected.
“It’s an unmitigated disaster,” Boomer said. “It’s like Aaron Rodgers has completely sucked the air out of the building…he’s a first ballot Hall of Famer, and one of the greatest QBs we’ve ever seen in his prime…but since he has come here, every player on this team has deferred everything to him.”
While the Jets flopped in epic fashion on Sunday, their recently-traded wide receiver was hauling in the game-winning touchdown for the division-leading Steelers, which Boomer says shows the negative impact Rodgers seems to have on the Jets right now.
“Russell Wilson said something about Mike Williams…that when he got to Pittsburgh, he showed up with such a big smile on his face, and he was so happy,” Boomer said. “Like he was so unencumbered from playing with the Jets and Aaron Rodgers.
“Mike Williams basically gives you a real perspective on what is going on in that locker room with the Jets.”
Because of the state of the locker room with a seemingly past-his-prime Rodgers at the forefront, Boomer believes New York will have a hard time bringing in a quality head coach after this season to replace Jeff Ulbrich.
“The Jet job right now is probably the worst possible job you could get of the available jobs that we will see at the end of the season,” Boomer said.
