UPDATE: Thomas returned to the game on the Giants' first offensive drive of the second quarter.

New York Giants rookie left tackle Andrew Thomas did not start the game against the Washington Football Team on Sunday, benched in favor of fellow rookie Matt Peart.

Thomas was the No. 4 overall pick this past spring, and was pressed into immediate action on Daniel Jones’ blind side when Nate Solder opted out of the season due to COVID-19 concerns. He has visibly struggled this season, and was replaced on the Giants’ opening drive by Peart, a third-round pick out of UConn in 2020.

The switch-up worked some early magic for Big Blue; the first two plays from scrimmage were a 21-yard pass to Evan Engram and a 13-yard run by Devonta Freeman that was spurred by a Peart block, and the Giants kicked a 33-yard field goal to finish off the drive.
