You knew the moment was coming, but it was still strange to see and hear.
While Week 1's Monday Night Football matchup features Russell Wilson making his Denver Broncos debut against his former team, the Seattle Seahawks, it was the presence of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman in the ESPN booth that was hardest for many to process early on.
The four-letter network signed Aikman to a five-year/$90 million media free agent deal in February, looking to return Monday Night Football to its former glory. Less than a month later, FOX allowed Buck out of the final year of his contract with the network so he could reunite with Aikman at ESPN. Buck, per Andrew Marchand of The New York Post, signed a five-year contract that will pay him in the "$60-$75 million range."
After two decades as the No. 1 broadcast team for FOX's NFL coverage, seeing Buck and Aikman for the first time on Monday evening was jarring to quite a few:
Hearing Joe Buck and Troy Aikman doing Monday Night Football feels so strange. Almost like seeing your teacher out in public.
