Randy Moss has boasted he is the G.O.A.T. when it comes to NFL receivers, but on Sunday, two of the G.O.A.T.’s records fell.
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson broke Moss’ franchise rookie record of 1,313 receiving yards which he set back in 1998.
Meanwhile, Tampa Bay Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans became the first wide receiver to begin his career with seven consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons, surpassing Moss’ previous mark of six.
Jefferson already had had his eye on Moss’ record heading into the game Sunday. He was seen wearing Randy Moss-themed cleats that had the Hall of Famer’s rookie stats on one side with Jefferson’s rookie stats on the other.
Moss certainly seemed to appreciate the homage, responding to a tweet about the shoes with a heart emoji right around the same time Jefferson passed him on the list.
Not only did Jefferson break the franchise record set by Moss, but he also passed Anquan Boldin (1,377) as the all-time rookie receiving yards leader in the Super Bowl era. He still trailed overall leader Bill Groman (1,473) at the start of the fourth quarter, but Groman's record is from the AFL in 1960.
Evans, on the other hand, was actually forced to leave the Bucs game after setting the record. The veteran wide receiver appeared to injure his left knee and was later seen leaving the stadium with a brace to get an MRI.
