NFL bettors appear to see a ton of value in Giants as NFC East winners

If you're Matthew Freedman, the same betting whiz Matthew Freedman that's featured in the video at the top of this page, this article might hurt to read. That's because Freedman spoke at length about wanting to fade — a.k.a. take the opposite side of the popular bet — the Giants and everything around them for the upcoming NFL season.

And that certainly does seem to be the opposite approach of the one taken by the masses, here. Maybe it's because Saquon Barkley is back and Kenny Golladay is on board. Maybe it's because no one else in the NFC East presents too big a threat. Maybe it's because sports betting has been legalized in New Jersey and New York for a relatively long time, meaning there's some bias to the bets that are coming in. Regardless of the reasoning, the sports betting community really seems to like taking the Giants as the winners of the NFC East.

Now, this doesn't mean that everyone thinks the Giants will win the NFC East. DraftKings Sportsbook, where the bets are coming in, doesn't even think this — but that's exactly why the value is there.

As the odds currently stand, the Giants are +400 to win the division, sitting behind both the Dallas Cowboys (+150) and the Washington Football Team (+200). The Philadelphia Eagles sit in last (+500), though the whole race is pretty tightly packed. Perhaps that's why, seeing as the Giants don't really appear to be all that far outside the favorite spot to win a vulnerable division, those 4-to-1 odds seem so promising.

These odds will, of course, continue to move around as we head toward the regular season. In fact, we might even see some movement today after a not-so-inspiring effort by the defense, which is the part of the team that holds the most promise.

Should the defense have a repeat effort from 2020 (No. 9 out of 32 in points against), along with any sort of growth from Daniel Jones and an improved offensive line, a division win is well within reach.
