Henrik Lundqvist will not play for the Washington Capitals this season.
The former Rangers netminder announced on Twitter Thursday that after consulting with physicians, he will sit out the 2020-21 season due to a heart condition, saying “the risk of playing before remedying my condition is too high.”
Lundqvist signed a one-year, $1.5 million deal with the Capitals in October after the Rangers bought out the final year of his deal. "King Henrik" had been a Blueshirt his entire career until that point, breaking into the NHL in 2005 and becoming the Rangers’ all-time leader in wins (459) and save percentage over 15 seasons.
