It was a historic day for Novak Djokovic on Sunday.
The 34-year-old defeated Matteo Berrettini in four sets to win the Wimbledon final for his 20th career major title.
The victory ties Djokovic with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer for the most in men’s tennis history and he became the first man to win three majors of a calendar year since Rod Laver did it in 1969.
Laver was able to complete the calendar “Grand Slam” that year and Djokovic will also now get that opportunity at the end of the summer at the U.S. Open, where he can also become the sole leader for most major championships.
The crowd at Wimbledon was certainly not on Djokovic’s side, cheering for Berrettini with chants of “Ma-tt-eo” echoing through the arena.
Berrettini played Djokovic tough, taking the first set 7-6, but the Serbian won the next three 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.
