Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith signs four-year contract extension

The deal runs through 2026.

On Wednesday morning, Ohio State University confirmed that athletic director Gene Smith will remain with the school for at least another four years. According to The Columbus Dispatch, Smith received an extension in March that will pay him close to $2 million annually until June of 2026.

There were rumors that Smith, who's been the AD at OSU since 2005, might retire or take the Pac-12 commissioner job, but the new extension keeps him in Columbus for the foreseeable future.


In a text message, Smith confirmed the news, saying, "It's an honor to continue to serve the flagship university in my home state. I appreciate the support of President Johnson and the Board of Trustees."
