It’s become a joke and it’s not funny.
Late in the 4th quarter, the Steelers were facing a 3rd &1 with a chance to put the Browns away for good.
A quarterback run play was called and Kenny Pickett got swallowed up behind the line of scrimmage.
It was a ridiculous play call. Many people, including myself literally laughed out loud after the play call, what else can you do at that point.
It was a microcosm of Matt Canada’s offense. It looks like most of the plays go backwards or sideways, hardly ever forward.
When George Pickens scored a 71-yard touchdown in the 2nd quarter, it was a surprise. They actually had an explosive play!
For some teams that happens multiple times a drive, not once a game.
The raucous crowd at Acrisure Stadium was not having it from Canada, with a loud and very audible “fire Canada” chant.
Pickett denied hearing the chants during a postgame news conference.
There’s no denying that Pickett has been, simply put, bad, but having Canada as your offense coordinator isn’t helping.
Canada doesn’t get 100 percent of the blame, that would be ridiculous, but he gets a majority of it.
Play calls are simple and puzzling.
Pro Football Focus’ Brad Spielberger put it best on The Fan Morning Show.
“The excuses are going to go away, including having the worst offensive coordinator in the sport, to a certain degree, he’s got to overcome that,” said Spielberger.
Spielberger also added he laughed out loud during the 3rd & 1 play call.
“There’s no secrecy, there’s no rhythm, you see through the route stems and guys are running into each other . . . the offense makes no sense.”
He added Canada is simply "outmatched."
The Steelers woes on offense are many, but you have to cut ties with Matt Canada.
Nothing against Canada personally, but this experiment has gone too far.
Canada's offense has never gone over 400 yards, with Ben Roethlisberger, Mitch Trubisky or Kenny Pickett.
