In an emergency move, the Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled Trotman from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League.
John Marino was added to the injured reserve list in the corresponding move.
Trotman has already seen action in five games for Pittsburgh this season.
He played between November 21 and December 4 in 2019.
Trotman has played in 88 NHL games over a six-year span with seasons for Pittsburgh and the Boston Bruins.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are wrapping up a home-and-home with the Toronto Maple Leafs and will play the second game on Thursday, February 20 at 7 p.m.
