Knicks fans have been clamoring to see more of Cam Reddish, even chanting his name at The Garden during a blowout win before the 22-year-old was finally put in for five minutes of garbage time.

Head coach Tom Thibodeau was asked about those chants, but has continued to make it clear that Reddish has to earn his way into the Knicks rotation, and doesn’t seem to be motivated to give the former 10th overall pick any kind of role in this current group.

Turns out, that may be because Thibodeau never wanted Reddish in the first place.

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, Thibodeau was never “all in” on the trade for Reddish, who was acquired for Kevin Knox and a first-round pick from the Hawks earlier this season. That reported lack of desire to add Reddish would be reflected in his playing time, as he has appeared in just three of the seven games that he has been active for the Knicks, and has only played more than five minutes once, when he played 10 during a blowout loss to the Heat, again in garbage time.

Berman also reports that Knicks brass could look to make a trade before Thursday’s deadline to open up a rotation spot for Reddish. The front office clearly wants to see what it has in its new youngster, but the head coach doesn’t seem willing to offer that extended look. Turns out, he may have never wanted even a glimpse.
