Robert Griffin III goes viral with wild touchdown call: ‘It’s an Orji in the end zone!’

Coming off their first College Football Playoff appearance, the eighth-ranked Wolverines barely broke a sweat in Saturday’s opener, obliterating Colorado State in a 51-7 rout. With the game in hand, Michigan turned to freshman quarterback Alex Orji, who punched in his first career touchdown on a four-yard plunge with 1:43 to go in the fourth quarter.

That gave Robert Griffin III, who clearly had been waiting all game, if not all week, for this moment, the opportunity to slip in a sex joke, going for broke with this double entendre.

Though his bosses at ESPN may pull him aside for a talking to later, the internet seemed to enjoy Griffin’s provocative quip, livening up a snooze-fest of a game that was running on fumes.

It’s going to be a busy fall for Griffin, who, in addition to his duties as a color commentator on college broadcasts, will also appear on Monday Night Football. A former hurdler who earned all-conference honors at Baylor, Griffin also covers track and field events, including the recent World Athletics Championships at historic Hayward Field in Oregon.

A four-star recruit who committed to Michigan over scholarship offers from Oklahoma, Nebraska and Texas Tech, Orji is well behind co-starters Cade McNamara and J.J. McCarthy on the Wolverines’ depth chart, though his size (6’3”/235) and rushing ability make him a candidate for goal-line chances. Michigan will be back in action next Saturday with Hawaii making the trip to Ann Arbor for an 8 PM ET kickoff at the Big House.
