The New Orleans Saints will be turning to their third offensive coordinator in as many seasons when they take the field in 2025.
That's because Klint Kubiak, who held the role last season, has been hired into that same role by the Seattle Seahawks. The move was officially announced Sunday afternoon.
Kubiak was hired by the Saints ahead of the 2024 season to rebuild a scheme that had stood for nearly two decades with one or both of Sean Payton or Pete Carmichael leading the show. The scheme paid dividends early with 91 points over the first two weeks of the season, but things fell off precipitously with significant injuries impacting the group at every level.
For Kubiak it will be his fourth team in four seasons after taking over as the Vikings OC in the 2021 season. The Saints will also be bidding farewell to a front office staffer with personnel advisor Dave Ziegler taking on an assistant GM role with the Colts, according to reports.
The interview was one that the Saints could've blocked, but they are in the midst of their coaching own head coaching search and GM Mickey Loomis indicated they would not be blocking interviews for anyone they could not guarantee a job. The Saints have already conducted in-person interviews with interim head coach Darren Rizzi, Giants OC Mike Kafka and Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver. The Saints are expected to interview Eagles OC Kellen Moore this week, while Bills OC Joe Brady has eliminated himself from consideration.
The Saints are also expected to schedule an interview with former Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, and have expressed interest in interviewing Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury. Washington lost to the Eagles in the NFC Championship Sunday afternoon.
Whatever head coach the Saints land on, Loomis has indicated they will be free to build a staff however they see fit.
