The Houston Texans appear willing to move Brandin Cooks ahead of Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline, and their eye appears to be on draft capital.
Sitting at 1-4-1 heading into Week 8, the Texans are an obvious seller, and the trusty wideout is one of their most tradable assets. Cooks has 28 receptions for 281 yards with a touchdown this season, but has been a productive receiver throughout his career and is under contract through at least next season.
Appearing Thursday on “Clint Stoerner & The Show,” The Score NFL Insider Jordan Schultz shared what he knew about a potential Cooks trade.
“I don’t think it’s going to happen,” Schultz said. “It’s interesting with Cooks because he is a very good player, and it seems like every year the guy is involved in trade rumors. It’s almost without fail. He signs that two-year deal with a little under $40 (million) in Houston, I know his numbers are down, but he’s viewed as a legit, top-20 receiver. He’s a Pro Bowl-caliber receiver. The problem is that Houston has been asking for a lot. …
“The first thing I heard was a two (second-round pick), which I thought was crazy. Crazy. Then I asked a little bit more and you heard maybe a three or a four. I think that’s more realistic.”
The wide receiver market already has seen some movement, with the Kansas City Chiefs landing Kadarius Toney from the New York Giants on Thursday. The Chiefs sent a conditional third-rounder and a sixth-round pick in exchange for Toney, a 2021 first-round selection who underwhelmed with the Giants.
Houston has until 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday to move Cooks if that’s the path it chooses to go down.
