If it was up to retired Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, it sounds like he’d bring back offensive coordinator Matt Canada in 2023.

“I thought Matt did great,” Roethlisberger said on his latest episode of Footbahlin with Big Ben and his producer Spence.

“People talk about ‘get rid of him’ this, that and the other, but 7-2 down the stretch, found a way, “added Roethlisberger.

Roethlisberger said while the offense didn’t put up a lot of points in the 2022 season, only scoring more than 20 twice, he believes Canada should get a chance in 2023.

“They wanted Randy Fichtner (former OC) running out of here after we were putting up 30-some points a game and throwing the ball too much and now we’re running the ball a lot and they want to throw the ball and put up points,” said Roethlisberger.

Canada was Roethlisberger’s offensive coordinator during his last season.

As Andrew Fillipponi pointed out on The PM Team, he was under the impression that Ben and Canada didn’t get along.

It seemed the only success they had was when Roethlisberger would seemingly ignore Canada and draw up his own plays.

So hearing Roethlisberger give his endorsement of Roethlisberger is surprising.
