PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Todd Haley is back in pro football joining Tampa Bay.
He will be the head coach and general manager of the Tampa Bay Bandits of the USFL as announced on Thursday.
Haley credited by some for helping extend Ben Roethlisberger’s career by instituting short passes and quick throws to the Steelers offense. Haley returned home to be the Steelers offensive coordinator from 2012-2017. Haley would lead the Browns offense for half of the 2018 season before getting fired.
Previous to that, the 54-year-old Upper St. Clair grad was the head coach of the Chiefs from 2009-2011 (19-26 with a playoff loss). Haley was also the offensive coordinator with the Cardinals for 2 years and a receivers coach with the Jets, Bears and Cowboys.
The previous coach of the Bandits, when they were last in existence in the 1980’s, was another outspoken guy who would wear a visor, Steve Spurrier.
