Saying that changes need to be made, Steeler Head Coach Mike Tomlin is planning on starting Mason Rudolph over Mitch Trubisky, after the team’s third-straight embarrassing loss.

Tomlin said he isn’t “dumping the outcome of the game at Mitch (Trubisky’s) feet, I’m not saying that, but I am saying that the guy at that position is at the controls and does have a big say on how some things unfold.”

He also said that Mason Rudolph is “deserving of an opportunity.”

This comes a week after Tomlin said that he was sticking with Trubisky because he had more “in helmet” work during practice, compared to Rudolph.

Rudolph came in during the last couple of minutes of Saturday’s 30-13 loss to Indianapolis, his first action since 2021.

He went 2-for-3 for three yards.

“As I stand here today, Mason Rudolph is the guy with the ball, we’re going to support him and ready him,” said Tomlin.

He did say that could change though with Kenny Pickett working to get back.

Tomlin says that Pickett had “a really good rehab today,” speaking during his news conference on Monday.  “We’ll leave the door ajar and see how Kenny responds to the work that he did today, the limited work that we’re probably going to give him tomorrow.”

The quarterback depth chart won’t be better known until later in the week.
