The Chiefs could be without two of their top three players when they take on the Lions in Thursday's NFL season-opener.

All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce hyperextended his knee in Tuesday's practice and his status for Thursday is uncertain, said coach Andy Reid. The defending Super Bowl champs are already expected to be missing All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones, who's yet to report to the team amid his contract hold-out.

Reid said that Kelce's injury happened "right in front of me" and that doctors were assessing it at the moment.

"We’ll just see how he does going forward," Reid said. "They’re looking at it now, so we’ll just see how it goes."

Chiefs receiver Skyy Moore told reporters that he saw Kelce limp off the field on his own power," which could indicate the injury is relatively minor. Still, his status for Thursday remains to be seen.

If Kelce can't go, Noah Gray would likely be the Chiefs starting tight end. The third-year pro had 28 catches for 299 yards and a touchdown last season.

As for Jones, Reid said Tuesday that there was "no progress" to report in contract negotiations.

Maybe it's the Lions' game to lose.
