Tyreek Hill trade didn't come together as suddenly as it seemed

Because things get leaked so easily in the NFL, the way the Tyreek Hill news came down Wednesday seemed to hint that things had ramped up really quickly.

According to his agent, that’s not really the case.

A Hill trade hardly was on anyone’s radar this offseason. But on Wednesday, news came out that the Kansas City Chiefs had given Hill permission to seek a trade, and that the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets were most seriously pursuing him.

Not long after, Hill was traded to Miami for a haul of draft picks.

Everything happened quickly, but that was just to the public. Drew Rosenhaus said Thursday on 560 Sports in Miami that he had been working on a trade for Hill well before Wednesday.

“The funny thing is, I’ve been working on this about a week now, and I’m just amazed that a trade of this magnitude really was kept quiet,” Rosenhaus said on “The Joe Rose Show with Zach Krantz.” “And I can tell you, it’s pretty stunning because I talked to really all 32 teams on at least a cursory basis to let them know that Tyreek was available, and had extensive conversations with about a dozen teams. But it really came down to the Jets and the Dolphins, early on I could surmise those were the teams.”

That tracks with what Rosenhaus said about the Davante Adams trade last week effectively being the impetus for Hill to get moved.

Ultimately, it doesn’t really matter how short or long it took. The Chiefs now have a treasure trove of draft capital, Hill got the contract he wanted and the Dolphins got a high-end receiver for Tua Tagovailoa.
