Tom Brady has a movie on the way, and if Bill Belichick wants to keep pace with him in the entertainment department, then he won’t have to look far to find someone to play him.
Mark Wahlberg has gotten to know the longtime New England Patriots head coach, so he’s been able to see past the curmudgeonly vibe Belichick puts forth in public.
Even if he didn’t know Belichick well, Wahlberg has played enough New Englanders over the years that he would surely gets some consideration for such a role.
And during an appearance Wednesday on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show”, Wahlberg suggested that he likely would get the support of Belichick himself if ever asked to play the coach in a biopic.
“It all started when somebody was like who would you see yourself playing: Tom Brady or Bill Belichick?" Wahlberg said. I think I look a little more like Bill Belichick, let’s just be real, which is fine. I love Bill and I also know Bill, so to be able to hear Bill be on the podium where he says next to nothing and really hear him -- I just kind of threw it out there, but yeah, if it’s a possibility I think he would trust me to do him justice.”
There’s a 19-year age difference between Wahlberg and Belichick. That actually could play in Wahlberg’s favor since he’s young enough to play some of the earlier years of Belichick’s run with the Patriots while enough work behind the scenes could allow him to act out Belichick’s older years.
Some sort of film adaptation of Belichick’s life (or at the very least, his tenure with the Patriots) seems likely at some point. If/when that does come to pass, Wahlberg sounds willing to go to the front of the line to play the lead role.
