Aroldis Chapman, seen as a borderline pick to make the Yankees’ ALDS squad, will not be on the roster after the lefty reliever apparently made the decision for himself.

Per Aaron Boone, Chapman did not show up for the Yankees’ workout on Friday, and “did not have an acceptable reason” for not being there.

Boone also added that the team is considering disciplinary action in addition to leaving him off the roster. With Chapman’s contract up at the end of this season, it now seems like a certainty that Chapman’s Yankee career is over.

It was not a great second tenure for Chapman in pinstripes, as his time with the Yanks included serving up two backbreaking playoff home runs in consecutive years in 2019, and 2020, then struggling badly with his control over the past two seasons. He recently came back from an IL stint that resulted from an infection in his knee after getting a tattoo, and reports indicated towards the end of the season that the team was considering designating him for assignment.
