As the Yankees begin their spring training slate on Saturday, Joe Benigno says the Bombers are really only preparing to battle one team in 2023 for the American League pennant.

“The American League, let’s be real, it’s pretty much the Yankees and the Astros,” Joe said. “In the National League, there’s five or six teams you have to really be concerned about.”

Joe noted the heightened competition in the NL East, where the Mets, Braves, and Phillies will be battling it out, while the Dodgers and Padres fight in the west, and the Cardinals present another potential contender in the central. As for the American League, while there are some potential breakout candidates, Evan mostly agrees with Joe’s take on the state of competition.

“I think it’ll change in the AL…maybe the White Sox put it all together, maybe the Blue Jays or Mariners, but as of right now, you’re right,” Evan said. “If you’re the Yankees, there’s only one team you have to get past.”
