The shorthanded Grizzlies with multiple injuries, and just 9 active players prepared to participate in Tuesday night's game without Marc Gasol, came out with energy and beat the Minnesota Timberwolves Tuesday night at FedExForum 108-106.
Gasol's emotional entrance during the 1st quarter, simply sitting at the bench to join his teammates in the arena despite being inactive tonight given his trade status, drew a standing ovation by the fans.
Gasol just joined his team on the bench. To a standing ovation.
— Geoff Calkins (@geoff_calkins) February 6, 2019By the end of the 3rd quarter, Gasol's car was gone from the FedExForum parking lot. But inside, the Grizzlies battled.
Memphis was led by Mike Conley, also rumored to be on the trade block, with 25 points and 9 rebounds in 33 minutes. Justin Holiday showed out, eventually winning the game for Memphis with the final two free throws with .1 second left on the clock, after being fouled on the game's final possession for Memphis. Holiday had 17 points and 9 rebounds in 39 minutes. Jaren Jackson had a solid performance with 17 points and 9 rebounds. But it was Ivan Rabb's double-double 19 points and 11 rebounds that really impressed and delighted many at FedExForum. Rabb's promise could prove important for Memphis in the coming year.
