The Memphis Tigers started 1-0 in conference play on Thursday night with a convincing 85-74 win over Wichita State at FedExForum. The Tigers finished the 1st half on a 24-12 run and to get the 44-32 halftime lead and never looked back.
The story going into the game was Alex Lomax, who transferred from Wichita State to Memphis when Penny Hardaway became head coach. Lomax has struggled so far in his early Memphis career, but had a really nice game to lead the Tigers to their first conference victory, finishing 8pts 8reb 5ast 3stl off the bench. Antwaan Jones led the starters with 16pts and Kyvon Davenport led all scorers with 25pts off the bench.
The Tigers continue AAC Conference play with a huge game Sunday at #19 Houston, who remains undefeated and ranked atop the AAC. Game tips at 5pm Sunday on ESPN News.

January 4, 2019 If you would like me to write a column about any other heavily criticized player, send me the name. Seems to work well.

January 4, 2019 Lot to like about Antwann Jones. His 10 pts (on 4 of 4 FGs) lead a Memphis squad that outscored Wichita St 26-12 over final 7:15 of first half. Tigers lead Shockers 44-32 at break. ALo 6pts/4assts. Davenport 8pts/4rebs. Parks with a really nice 12 mins (6pts/3rebs/2blks/3steals).

January 4, 2019 Alex Lomax is playing his ass off. Gotta give him a ton of credit for the way he’s handled everything.

January 4, 2019 Final: Memphis 85, Wichita State 74. Gregg Marshall wraps this one up by telling Bank of Bartlett/Memphis Rebounders president Harold Byrd that he needs to spend some money on his face. I mean, it’s like Huggins is back in Memphis, giving it to Tigers fans again. Davenport 25 pts
