Two teams with something to prove are advancing to the National Men's Basketball Championship on Monday night. Virginia beat Auburn 63-62 to advance. Texas Tech beat Michigan State 61-51.
Yes, every team technically has something to prove. That's why they play these games. But for Virginia, it was a chance to recast themselves after falling in the first round last year as a 1-seed to the 16-seed team from the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.
In the Virginia game the discussion will focus around the foul call with less than 1-second remaining which put Kyle Guy to the line. Guy made all three free throws. Bottom line: it was a foul. Number one seed Virginia certainly deserved the win, as did Auburn.
In the final 8 seconds, Auburn’s Jared Harper missed a free throw, the refs missed a double-dribble by Virginia’s Ty Jerome, Auburn was called for a foul on a 3-pointer, and Kyle Guy made 3 free throws for the win. That is just an incredible sequence of (bad) events for Auburn. https://t.co/f4vQAh94o6

April 7, 2019 For Texas Tech, the Red Raiders have followed the lead of their "blue-collar" coach, Chris Beard. The workman-like defense of Tech kept the game close, until the Red Raiders pulled away with less than two-and-a-half minutes remaining on the back of Jarrett Culver.
